OB’s Stadium to Undergo Renovation

Odense Boldklub’s (OB) stadium is set for a major renovation following an agreement between the club’s owner, Odense Sport & Event, and Odense Municipality. The project, estimated to cost 210 million kroner, aims to modernize the stadium and meet the requirements of the Danish League Association.

The renovation plans include closing the open corners of the stadium, increasing spectator capacity from 15,300 to approximately 16,800, and installing a roof over all spectator seats. The upgrades are expected to be completed by the start of the 2028 season.

Other improvements include doubling the number of toilets, tripling the number of food and beverage stalls, and doubling the size of the VIP area.

Niels Thorborg, chairman and main investor in Odense Sport & Event, hailed the project as a “big day” for both Odense and OB. He emphasized the creation of “a fantastic stadium – a real football stadium” with closed corners and covered seats. Thorborg also highlighted the project’s environmental sustainability, noting the reuse of foundations and the preservation of usable seats.

Odense Municipality is contributing 30 million kroner and providing an initial outlay of 75 million kroner. Odense Sport & Event will repay this through increased rent, totaling 120 million kroner including ongoing operations. The OB owner is also investing 60 million kroner in the renovation.

Nature Energy Park, the stadium’s official name, was originally built in 1941 and last renovated in 2007. OB will continue to play at the stadium during the renovation process, which is scheduled to begin “as soon as possible.”
