Uber Acquires Dantaxi and Strengthens Position in Denmark

Uber has significantly expanded its presence in Denmark by acquiring Dantaxi, the country’s largest taxi company. This move follows Uber’s return to the Danish market in 2024 through a partnership with Drivr, after a seven-year absence due to previous legal challenges.

The acquisition allows users to order professional taxi drivers from Dantaxi via the Uber app. Uber’s original business model, which relied on private car owners, will not be reintroduced in Denmark.

Uber initially launched in Denmark in 2014 but faced legal issues due to conflict with Danish taxi laws. The company ceased operations in Denmark on March 28, 2017, citing the restrictive regulations.

Uber, founded in 2009 by Garret Camp and Travis Kalanick, is an American company headquartered in San Francisco and registered in the Netherlands. The platform connects customers with drivers via a mobile app.

The company operates in approximately 70 countries and over 10,000 cities worldwide. Uber’s business model has faced legal challenges in several locations. In Denmark, the service was deemed illegal taxi driving, resulting in fines for Uber drivers.
