Uber Acquires Danish Taxi Company Dantaxi

Uber has acquired Dantaxi, Denmark’s largest taxi company, according to a press release from Dantaxi. The acquisition will integrate Dantaxi’s extensive network of drivers into Uber’s platform, significantly expanding Uber’s presence in the Danish market.

Dantaxi, which boasts over 3,500 drivers across 75 Danish municipalities, was previously owned by the private equity fund Triton, acquired in 2018. The company will continue its operations as before, however, the drivers will now be part of Uber’s platform.

Uber’s return to Denmark follows its departure in 2017 due to stringent taxi regulations. Previously, Uber partnered with Drivr to re-enter the market, with Drivr providing the taxi service and Uber handling the app technology. The acquisition of Dantaxi is a more decisive move, fully incorporating a major Danish taxi operator into Uber’s structure.

Carsten Aastrup, CEO of Dantaxi, expressed enthusiasm for the new chapter, emphasizing that the collaboration with Uber opens exciting opportunities for Dantaxi. Uber emphasizes that the rides will be priced according to Danish taxi regulations and displayed in the Uber app before being ordered.

Both companies claim a shared commitment to sustainable taxi driving, aiming to support Denmark’s green transition. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed in the press release.
