Uber Acquires Danish Taxi Company Dantaxi

Uber has acquired Dantaxi, Denmark’s largest taxi company, according to a press release from Dantaxi. The acquisition will integrate over 3,500 drivers across 75 Danish municipalities into Uber’s platform.

The agreement marks a significant expansion for Uber in Denmark. Passengers will now have access to a significantly larger pool of drivers through the Uber app. Dantaxi, previously owned by the private equity fund Triton since 2018, is now under American ownership.

Dantaxi’s CEO, Carsten Aastrup, views the collaboration with Uber as an exciting new chapter for the company. The agreement suggests that Dantaxi will continue its operations as before, while its drivers become part of Uber’s ride-hailing platform.

This acquisition follows Uber’s recent return to Denmark. Uber initially withdrew from the Danish market in 2017 due to the enactment of new taxi laws. Upon returning, Uber partnered with the taxi company Drivr, providing the app while Drivr handled the taxi service itself. The new agreement with Dantaxi differs as it is a full acquisition, rather than a simple collaboration.
