A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 24-year-old woman. The woman was discovered deceased at a residence near Grenaa on Djursland on Monday evening.
The suspect appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, which was held behind closed doors. He has been remanded in custody for four weeks, until June 24th.
East Jutland Police were alerted at 7:41 p.m. on Monday, after the 24-year-old woman was found dead at an address where the 28-year-old suspect was also present. Health authorities, who were at the location for an unrelated reason, contacted the police.
Police have stated that the deceased and the suspect knew each other, but have not elaborated on their relationship. Upon arrival, police determined that foul play could not be ruled out, leading to the man’s arrest and questioning.
The man is accused of strangling the woman or killing her in another, unspecified manner. During the hearing, the judge noted that police still need to interview multiple witnesses and are searching the area for evidence, which contributed to the decision to close the hearing to the public. The judge also emphasized the seriousness of the crime and the early stage of the investigation.
The accused pleaded not guilty at the preliminary hearing. The woman’s family has been informed.
