FC Copenhagen fans are planning an atmosphere boycott for the first 20 minutes of the cup final match against Silkeborg IF. This protest is organized by Sektion 12, an umbrella organization for the fan groups in Parken’s most vocal stand, and supported by FC Copenhagen’s official fan club.
The boycott is a demonstration against the decision to hold the cup final at MCH Arena, which the fans believe undermines the significance of the national cup tournament. Both clubs have only received around 5,000 tickets each, leaving many fans unable to attend.
Sektion 12 and FC København Fan Club are urging all fans with tickets to the cup final, regardless of club affiliation, to refrain from any visual or vocal support until the 20th minute of the match.
Traditionally, the cup final is held in Parken, Denmark’s national stadium. This year, however, the match was initially scheduled to take place at Brøndby Stadion.
However, in early April, the Danish League announced that it had reassessed the venue for security reasons, citing the tense relationship between FC Copenhagen and Brøndby fans.
The Danish League then presented four scenarios for the cup final. Three of the scenarios involved playing the match at Brøndby Stadion, but if FC Copenhagen and Silkeborg reached the final, the match would be moved to Herning to “ensure the best possible execution.”
Sektion 12 and FC København Fan Club criticize the decision to hold the cup final in the country’s seventh-largest stadium. They argue that limiting the number of fans able to support their team contradicts the Danish League’s statement that the cup final should be the country’s biggest football celebration.
