Reduced Train Traffic on Øresund Bridge Due to Track Work

Significant disruptions to train services between Malmö and Copenhagen are expected from May 27 to June 9 due to essential track work on the Øresund Bridge. Skånetrafikken has announced that fewer trains will operate in both directions during this period.

To alleviate congestion, replacement bus services will be available during peak hours. However, travelers should anticipate longer travel times and potential crowding.

The track work involves replacing 3.5 kilometers of rails within the Øresund Tunnel. This extensive maintenance is necessary after 25 years of train traffic, as recent inspections revealed that sections of the rails have reached the end of their technical lifespan.

Initially, track work will occur at night from May 27 to May 30, resulting in reduced train capacity during those hours, as only one track will be open. From May 30 to June 9, the maintenance will intensify, with work taking place around the clock, further impacting train capacity as only one track remains operational.

Skånetrafikken acknowledges the inconvenience caused by these disruptions, especially considering recent similar work on the bridge. The company emphasizes the importance of train traffic over the Øresund Bridge for the region, particularly given the limited alternative transportation options.

The Øresund Bridge stretches almost eight kilometers and is a vital link for transportation in the region.
