Man Arrested in Eight-Year-Old Rape Case on Amager

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2017 rape of a woman in Amager. The arrest follows a DNA match obtained after the man was recently apprehended in another, unrelated case.

The Copenhagen Police have confirmed the arrest and the connection to the long-dormant rape investigation. The rape occurred in August 2017 when a young woman was attacked in a basement while walking home at night. The assailant allegedly used a chokehold and threats before sexually assaulting her.

Authorities have not disclosed the details surrounding the man’s initial arrest, including the charges and location, citing the ongoing investigation. It is also unconfirmed if the man is still charged in the other case.

Deputy Police Inspector Jesper Beuschel emphasized the importance of continued investigation into serious crimes, even those that have been suspended. He also highlighted the advancements in DNA technology, which played a crucial role in identifying the suspect in the 2017 rape case.

The arrested man is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing, where a judge will determine whether he will be held in custody. The prosecution is expected to request a closed hearing to protect the victim’s privacy, meaning details of the evidence and the man’s testimony will not be made public.
