King Frederik has awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog to his nephews, Counts Nikolai and Felix. The ceremony took place at Amalienborg Palace.
The Royal House confirmed the awards on its website, accompanied by images from the private event. Each count will receive a personal knight’s cross as part of the honor.
This event follows a previous decision in 2023 by Queen Margrethe to remove the prince titles from Nikolai and Felix, along with their siblings Henrik and Athena, the children of Prince Joachim. The removal of titles was intended to provide the grandchildren with greater freedom.
The Queen’s decision sparked both public attention and internal frustration, but the change was upheld. The counts will receive a knight’s cross.
