An 18-year-old Swedish man is set to appear in Copenhagen City Court around 09:45, facing charges of attempted murder. Copenhagen Police announced the court date via X.
The charges stem from an incident on April 29, 2024, where the man allegedly attempted to shoot an individual inside a hairdressing salon on Sankt Hans Torv in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. The attempt failed because the salon door was locked. The suspect then fled the scene.
Authorities believe the 18-year-old was hired to commit the crime as part of an ongoing conflict between two rival gang groups. “It is the police’s assessment that the 18-year-old was commissioned to carry out murder as part of a former conflict between two gang groups,” the police wrote on X.
The suspect was previously held in a Swedish prison before being extradited to Denmark on Monday.
Last spring and summer saw several cases where young Swedes were allegedly recruited to carry out serious violent crimes in Denmark. Some of these cases have already resulted in convictions.
Notably, on April 1, a 17-year-old Swedish boy received an eight-year prison sentence for attempted murder on Blågårds Plads in Nørrebro. His target was a man with a Loyal To Familia tattoo on his face. He fired shots in the square but did not hit anyone. The trial revealed he had been commissioned to travel to Denmark for the murder.
Earlier this year, two other Swedish boys were sentenced to five and a half and six and a half years in prison, respectively, for attempted murder targeting individuals at the Comanches’ clubhouse in Brøndby. They, too, had been hired to commit the crime.
A report from the National Police to the Danish Parliament indicated that from April 2024 to the end of April this year, 38 cases involving Swedes traveling to Denmark to commit serious crimes were registered.
