Danish Survey Reveals Seatbelt Usage Habits, Especially Among Young Drivers

A 2024 survey by the Road Safety Council and Wilke reveals that while seatbelt usage is high among Danish drivers overall, young drivers are less consistent in buckling up. According to the survey, 95% of Danish drivers report using a seatbelt every time or almost every time they drive.

However, this figure drops to 90% for drivers aged 17 to 24, indicating a challenge in ensuring consistent seatbelt use among the youngest drivers. The Road Safety Council emphasizes the critical importance of seatbelts in minimizing injury and saving lives in the event of an accident.

Furthermore, the survey highlights a concerning trend among young drivers, with over one in three admitting to having driven with more passengers than available seatbelts at least once in the past year.

Jakob Bøving Arendt, CEO of the Road Safety Council, underscores that seatbelts are “incredibly important to use,” as they prevent occupants from being thrown around or ejected from the vehicle during a collision and significantly reduce the severity of injuries. He laments that accidents continue to occur where young people’s lives are tragically altered, situations where a seatbelt could have made the difference.
