AaB Fires Head Coach and Sports Director Following Relegation

AaB has terminated the contracts of head coach Kristoffer Wichmann and sports director James Gow following the club’s relegation from the Superliga. Chairman Jan Peters announced the decision, citing unsatisfactory on-field performance and differing visions for the future.

Wichmann’s tenure was brief, having been appointed on April 23 with only five matches remaining in the relegation play-offs, replacing Menno van Dam. He had a contract until 2027.

Gow had been with AaB since October 2023, joining as part of the new ownership’s management team and assuming the role of sports director in the summer of 2024.

Peters acknowledged the club’s mistakes and accepted responsibility for the situation. He emphasized that the decisions were made after careful consideration and were deemed necessary for the club’s future direction.

The German investor group Sports Strategy Excellence 22 (SSE22), led by Jan Peters, acquired a stake in AaB in March 2023 and later increased their investment to become the majority owner.
