Børsen Appoints New Editor-in-Chief and CEO

Nikolaj Sommer has been named the new editor-in-chief of Børsen, while Jesper Buchvald will assume the role of CEO, according to a press release from the Danish business daily. These appointments follow the departure of Bjarne Corydon, who is set to become the director-general of DR on August 1st.

The changes mark a restructuring of Corydon’s former position, which encompassed both editor-in-chief and CEO responsibilities. The two new leaders will officially begin their new roles on June 1st, earlier than Corydon’s initially announced departure date of July 31st.

Peter Fellman, Chairman of Børsen, expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating that Buchvald and Sommer’s combined expertise will further strengthen the newspaper’s position in the Danish market.

Sommer, who has served as news editor and acting editor-in-chief since 2018, brings extensive experience to the role. He previously worked at DR, the Ministry of Finance, and the Prime Minister’s Office, and also began his journalistic career at Børsen two decades ago. Sommer conveyed his pride in assuming the journalistic leadership at Børsen, highlighting the talent and competence of the newspaper’s staff.

Buchvald has been a member of Børsen’s board since 2017 and has served as CEO of Bonnier Publications since 2016. Bonnier Publications, like Børsen, is owned by the Swedish media group Bonnier News. Buchvald will continue to serve as CEO of Bonnier Publications alongside his new responsibilities at Børsen.

The announcement of Corydon’s move to DR was made in late April, after he had been the head of Børsen since 2018.
