The Danish Defence has utilized a variety of equipment since the 1950s. Here’s an overview of some of the most well-known weapons, aircraft, and ships.
Weapons Systems: The Danish military has employed several notable weapon systems. The M/50, a variant of the Madsen machine gun, served for many years as a standard light machine gun. In terms of anti-tank capabilities, the M40 recoilless rifle was a significant asset, providing infantry units with considerable firepower against armored threats. More recently, modern assault rifles like the Colt Canada C7 and C8 have become standard-issue for Danish soldiers.
Aircraft: The Royal Danish Air Force has operated various aircraft types throughout its history. The F-16 Fighting Falcon has been a cornerstone of the air force, providing air defense and ground attack capabilities for decades. Prior to the F-16, the F-104 Starfighter served as a supersonic interceptor. For maritime patrol, the CL-604 Challenger is used for surveillance.
Naval Vessels: The Royal Danish Navy has operated a diverse fleet of ships. The Flyvefisken-class patrol vessels were designed for a variety of roles, including surveillance, search and rescue, and mine countermeasures. Before that, the Willemoes-class fast attack craft provided considerable offensive capabilities in the Baltic Sea. Currently, the navy relies on the Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates for air defense and anti-submarine warfare. These ships represent a significant upgrade in naval capabilities.
