Thousands of Vacant Study Places Available in Higher Education for 2025

Thousands of vacant study places are available for higher education in 2025, offering a new opportunity for applicants who were initially rejected. According to figures released by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, 497 out of 940 educational programs have vacant places, totaling 17,655 spots.

Professional bachelor’s programs account for the largest share of these vacancies, with 11,518 of the 17,655 vacant places. Examples include teacher, pedagogue, and nursing education programs at Copenhagen University College, which has set an application deadline of August 5 for a summer start.

The availability of vacant study places has increased by six percent compared to last year, when there were 16,727 spots open. Rejected qualified applicants, individuals who meet the admission requirements but were not admitted due to high competition, are eligible to apply for these vacant positions.

A total of 10,693 qualified applicants have been rejected from all their chosen programs. The ministry’s data reveals that 45 percent of these rejected qualified applicants applied to only one higher education program. 22 percent applied for two different programs, while 32 percent prioritized three or more.

The individual educational institutions are responsible for deciding whether to offer the vacant places and determining the application process. Applicants must still meet the admission requirements for the specific program to be considered for a vacant study place.
