BonBon-Land Amusement Park Suffers Significant Financial Loss Due to Heavy Rain and Closure

BonBon-Land amusement park has incurred substantial financial losses due to the massive amounts of rain that impacted the country earlier this week, leading to the park’s closure. The park’s director, Lars Fahlmann, estimates the park missed out on three million kroner in revenue on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The park paid approximately 300,000 kroner to pump water away from affected areas. Despite some guests potentially rescheduling their visits, Fahlmann acknowledged that the majority of the potential revenue is lost. He also stressed that closing the park was the correct decision.

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) issued warnings on Monday regarding significant rainfall in several regions, including the area surrounding BonBon-Land, located in Holme-Olstrup near Næstved. Consequently, the park announced its closure on Tuesday to mitigate the risk of flooding. The closure was extended to Wednesday due to persistent high water levels around the rides and parking facilities.

Fahlmann noted that while there were some reduced expenses associated with the closure, these savings do not offset the overall financial deficit.

Other amusement parks, such as Givskud Zoo and Fårup Sommerland, were also affected by the weather warnings. Givskud Zoo remained open, but experienced a significant drop in visitors. According to Director Rasmus Nielsen, the warnings led many potential guests to stay away, impacting revenue.

Fårup Sommerland in North Jutland also reported a decline in visitors due to the weather forecasts, even though the severe weather did not materialize in the area.
