BonBon-Land amusement park has experienced a significant economic downturn following the massive amounts of rain that impacted the country earlier this week. The park’s director, Lars Fahlmann, estimates that the park missed out on approximately three million kroner in revenue due to closures on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The park was forced to close its doors after the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) issued warnings on Monday regarding heavy rainfall in several regions, including the area around BonBon-Land in Holme-Olstrup near Næstved. This led to an early announcement on Monday that the park would be closed on Tuesday to prevent potential flooding.
Despite efforts to mitigate the damage by pumping water away from critical areas, which cost around 300,000 kroner, the park remained inaccessible on Wednesday due to excessive water around the rides and parking facilities.
While the park experienced fewer expenses during the closure, Lars Fahlmann emphasized that these savings do not offset the substantial financial losses incurred from the two-day shutdown. He acknowledged that while some guests may reschedule their visits, the majority of the potential revenue is unrecoverable. He did stress that, the decision to close the park was the correct one.
