Decline in Transgressions Among Danish Athletes for Third Consecutive Year

The proportion of Danish athletes reporting experiences of transgressions has decreased for the third straight year, according to the annual well-being survey conducted by the Sports Analysis Institute on behalf of Team Denmark. In 2024, 14 percent of athletes reported experiencing transgressions.

The survey reveals a continuing positive trend, with transgression reports falling from 22 percent in 2022 to 17 percent, and then to 15 percent in 2023. These improvements suggest positive changes in the elite sports culture since the initial well-being survey in 2021.

Reported transgressions include body and weight comments from coaches, leaders, and fellow athletes, as well as aggressive or threatening behavior from coaches and leaders.

Despite these improvements, the survey indicates that internal relationships among athletes require further attention.

Lars Balle Christensen, sports director at Team Denmark, emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy culture, acknowledging the potential for tense situations due to the high-pressure environment. Christensen stated that continuous effort is needed in this area.

The survey also highlights that the majority of athletes are thriving and report high-quality support from Team Denmark. Specifically, nine out of ten athletes feel safe in their daily training environments, and 88 percent report having a good relationship with other athletes.
