Swedish Man Remanded in Custody for Pizzeria Hand Grenade Attack

A 19-year-old Swedish man has been remanded in custody for four weeks after being charged with throwing a hand grenade into a pizzeria in Søborg. The decision was announced on Thursday by prosecutor Christoffer Petersen from the prosecution service at Copenhagen’s Vestegn Police.

The man, who was extradited from Sweden on Wednesday, is accused of causing an explosion and fire at the pizzeria on the evening of March 24. He was initially imprisoned in absentia three months after the incident.

The indictment alleges that the 19-year-old threw a hand grenade at the pizzeria. In addition to the grenade attack, he is also charged under the “gang paragraph,” which allows for the doubling of sentences for gang-related crimes. The gang paragraph is applicable when a criminal act is committed based on a conflict between groups or to create a conflict.

The preliminary hearing was held behind closed doors, leading the prosecutor to withhold further details about the case. The 19-year-old has pleaded not guilty and reserved the right to appeal the custody order. A name ban, issued at the end of June when he was presented in absentia, prohibits the publication of information that could identify him.
