Defense spokesman for the Danish People’s Party, Alex Ahrendtsen, has voiced his support for Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen’s decision to convene defense agreement negotiations during the summer holiday period, dismissing criticism from Conservative member Rasmus Jarlov. Ahrendtsen emphasized the urgency of addressing defense matters and the importance of elected officials being available when needed.
Ahrendtsen stated that he finds it difficult to understand Jarlov’s dissatisfaction, emphasizing that members of Parliament should expect to be called in, even during holidays, given the current critical situation concerning the nation’s defense. He lauded Poulsen’s efforts to revitalize the ministry and the Defense, praising his competence, conscientiousness, and active engagement in European and NATO affairs.
Ahrendtsen further clarified that the negotiations are time-sensitive and cannot be postponed, as they involve significant decisions crucial for the Defense’s progress. He suggested that parties unable to attend should send a substitute, a common practice in such situations.
Responding to concerns about the timing of the notification, Ahrendtsen asserted that the settlement circle was informed well in advance about potential negotiations, providing ample time to make arrangements. He also addressed the issue of leaked information, expressing regret over the situation and suggesting direct communication with the minister to resolve any concerns.
