Simon Kofod Larsen, a 26-year-old man from Vejen, has been sentenced to indefinite detention following a ruling by the Western High Court (Vestre Landsret) on Tuesday. This decision affirms his guilt in a case involving extensive sexual abuse of minor girls.
The High Court’s ruling supports the original judgment made by the Court in Esbjerg (Retten i Esbjerg) in July of the previous year, where Larsen was also sentenced to indefinite detention and found guilty of numerous abuses.
Larsen appealed the city court’s ruling seeking acquittal on some charges and a fixed-term prison sentence. However, he now faces imprisonment without a defined end date.
The Western High Court reviewed the evidence related to 39 counts involving 20 different minor girls. The court largely upheld the city court’s findings, convicting Larsen on the 39 counts.
The case involves numerous girls contacted through social media platforms.
The city court previously convicted Larsen of four counts of rape, with three victims under the age of 15. He was also convicted of three attempted rapes of girls under 15, and multiple instances of sexual intercourse and attempted sexual intercourse with girls under 15.
Furthermore, the case includes extensive abuse of girls aged 11 to 17, unlawful coercion, witness intimidation, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The assaults and abuses took place between 2014 and 2022, when Larsen was between the ages of 15 and 23.
Indefinite detention is not technically a punishment, but rather an indefinite measure applied when the convicted individual is deemed particularly dangerous. Parole is only possible if a court determines that the person no longer poses a threat to society.
