Helle Thomsen will begin coaching the Danish women’s national handball team full-time starting immediately. This decision accelerates the original plan, which had Thomsen assuming the role in the summer of 2026.
The Danish Handball Federation (DanskHåndbold) announced the change on its website, confirming that Thomsen will focus solely on the national team and will not hold dual positions.
The move follows Thomsen’s departure from her previous position at CSM Bucuresti. The Romanian club announced Thomsen’s exit on Monday, citing personal reasons.
Thomsen expressed her enthusiasm for the new role. “I was looking forward to becoming a full-time national coach next summer, and now I get to start today,” she stated in a press release. “It’s a fantastic opportunity that I am both proud and grateful for.”
She also conveyed her eagerness to deepen her involvement with the team. “I look forward to diving even deeper into the work with the players, the team and the whole environment around the national team,” Thomsen added.
