An 82-year-old man, previously arrested and charged with the murder of a 79-year-old woman in Nivå, will be released. The decision was announced by his defense attorney, Mads Cramer-Kam.
The man’s release comes as the deadline for his initial arrest expires on Saturday afternoon. He was taken into custody after the 79-year-old woman, who had been missing for several days, was found dead in a wooded area in Nivå on Monday.
The North Zealand Police are treating the death as suspicious. The 82-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with the woman’s murder.
During a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, the man pleaded not guilty. The judge initially ordered his detention for three days to allow the police to gather more evidence. This period ends on Saturday, leading to the decision to release him rather than bring him before a judge again.
The defense attorney has declined to provide further comments regarding the case. It remains unclear if the charges against the man are still in effect, as the North Zealand Police communications department is unavailable until Monday.
Following the preliminary hearing, North Zealand Police appealed to the public for assistance, requesting video recordings from surveillance cameras, dashcams, or other recording devices in Nivå and the surrounding area south of Nivå, dating from Saturday afternoon at 5 pm until Monday afternoon. The charge against the man stated that the murder occurred within this timeframe.
