An 82-year-old man, who was arrested and charged with the murder of a 79-year-old woman in Nivå earlier this week, will be released on Saturday. The decision comes after a preliminary hearing and subsequent police investigation.
The 79-year-old woman had been missing for several days before being found dead in a wooded area in Nivå on Monday. North Zealand Police initially investigated the death as suspicious.
On Tuesday, the 82-year-old man was arrested and charged with the woman’s murder. During a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty. The judge initially ordered him to be held for three days to allow police to gather more evidence. This detention period is set to expire on Saturday afternoon.
The man’s defense attorney confirmed his client’s release but declined to provide further details about the case.
Following the preliminary hearing on Wednesday, North Zealand Police appealed to the public for assistance. They are seeking video recordings from surveillance cameras, dashcams, or other devices in Nivå or the area south of Nivå. The police are interested in footage from the period between Saturday at 5 p.m. and Monday afternoon, which is the time frame during which the murder is alleged to have occurred.
It remains unclear whether the charges against the man are still in place. Attempts to reach the North Zealand Police communications department for clarification have been unsuccessful.
