7-Eleven Denmark is ending its sponsorship of Copenhagen Pride after years of collaboration. The decision stems from a failure to reach an agreement on the terms of their partnership, according to CEO Jesper Østergaard.
While the financial support is ending, Pride wristbands will still be available for purchase in 7-Eleven stores.
The move follows a significant reduction in sponsors for Copenhagen Pride last year, after the parade announced it would inquire about sponsors’ “interests and activities in Israel and Palestine,” potentially denying partnership to those who didn’t provide satisfactory answers. Major companies such as Novo Nordisk, Mærsk, Google Denmark, Danske Bank, and DHL withdrew their support at that time and are not supporting the event this year either.
The sponsor exodus in the previous year led to the resignation of the former chairperson, Lars Henriksen. Benjamin Hansen has since taken over the position and has been actively working to rebuild trust with sponsors.
Copenhagen Pride also experienced a drop in audience numbers last year, with approximately 15,000 participants compared to 35,000 the previous year, according to Copenhagen Police estimates.
