Copenhagen Pride faces further financial strain as 7-Eleven Denmark withdraws its sponsorship, citing a failure to agree on collaboration terms. Despite ending financial support, Pride wristbands will still be available for purchase in 7-Eleven stores.
This withdrawal follows a significant exodus of sponsors last year, when Copenhagen Pride announced it would be scrutinizing sponsors’ involvement and stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Companies who did not give a “satisfactory answer” were not welcome as partners. Major corporations such as Novo Nordisk, Mærsk, Google Denmark, Danske Bank, and DHL all ended their sponsorship of Copenhagen Pride in 2023, and have not returned this year.
The substantial loss of sponsors, along with a decrease in audience participation, impacted the organization, leading to the resignation of the previous chairman, Lars Henriksen. Benjamin Hansen has since assumed the role of chairman and is working to rebuild trust with sponsors.
The 2024 Copenhagen Pride parade saw an estimated 15,000 participants, a considerable drop from the 35,000 attendees the previous year, according to Copenhagen Police estimates.
