A 19-year-old man from Ikast has admitted to sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl during the Landsskuet (National Show) in Herning. The assault occurred sometime during Friday afternoon.

Following a preliminary hearing at the Court in Viborg on Saturday, the man has been remanded in custody until July 14.

The man admitted to the assault after the charges against him were read out during the court hearing. The charge concerns rape by another sexual act other than intercourse.

According to Anders Bøje Hansen, duty officer at Midt- and Vestjyllands Politi (Mid and West Jutland Police), the man took the girl into some bushes where the assault allegedly occurred. The girl was then allegedly groped and subjected to the assault.

“She told her mother yesterday (Friday, ed.) afternoon, and then we searched for him, and then we found him last night and arrested him,” the duty officer explained.

The 19-year-old man’s personal circumstances will be investigated before it is decided what punishment he should be given.

The Landsskuet in Herning is one of Northern Europe’s largest animal exhibitions and had over 50,000 visitors last year. This year’s event takes place from July 3rd to 5th.
