Notable Figures Buried at Moscow’s Pyatnitskoye Cemetery

Moscow’s Pyatnitskoye Cemetery, established in the 1770s, serves as the final resting place for a number of prominent individuals from various fields and eras. This article concludes a series dedicated to exploring the lives and legacies of those interred within its grounds.

Lyudmila Ivanova, a celebrated Soviet and Russian actress and bard, is among those buried at Pyatnitskoye Cemetery. Ivanova, known for her roles in films like “Office Romance,” founded the Exprompt Children’s Musical Theater and authored numerous songs. She passed away in 2016, after a career marked by resilience in the face of personal loss.

Actress Henrietta Yegorova, honored as an Honored Artist of Russia, also rests at this location. Yegorova dedicated her career to the Maly Theater and appeared in films such as “The Cherry Orchard.” She died in 2007 and is buried alongside her husband and children.

The cemetery is also the final resting place of Boris Verkhovsky, a railway engineer involved in the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Verkhovsky was tragically killed during the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900, and his remains were later returned to Russia for burial at Pyatnitskoye Cemetery.
