New Scam Involving Job Offers and Internships Targets Personal Data Theft

Russians are being targeted by a new scam that uses fake job and internship offers to steal personal data, according to State Duma Deputy Anton Nemkin.

Scammers are requesting sensitive information such as Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN), Insurance Numbers of Individual Ledger Accounts (SNILS), and bank card numbers under the guise of employment requirements.

Job seekers are urged to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of job postings found on emails, social media ads, and job websites.

Fraudulent schemes often involve requests for “prepayment” for training, paperwork, or internship participation. Victims are then asked to provide copies of passports and bank card details, which are used to steal personal data and money.

Nemkin advises being wary of job ads offering high salaries without requiring experience, especially those accompanied by pressure to quickly sign documents or pay mandatory fees.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, individuals should research potential employers by checking for reviews and official websites.

It’s important to remember that legitimate employers do not require payment for employment or internships.
