The Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow has ordered the pre-trial detention in absentia of historian and educator Tamara Eidelman. This decision was announced by the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office on October 31.
Eidelman faces charges of rehabilitating Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and publicly disseminating deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces (paragraph “d” of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The investigation alleges that on May 5 of the previous year, Eidelman published a video containing negative information about the USSR’s actions during World War II, days of military glory, memorable dates related to the defense of the Fatherland, and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
Authorities further claim that on July 8, 2024, Eidelman disseminated deliberately false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces under the guise of reliable reports on a social network.
Tamara Eidelman is a respected figure, holding the title of Honored Teacher of Russia and having authored numerous historical books, educational articles, and publications. Before her retirement in 2021, she taught history and social studies at a Moscow school and headed the history department. She also worked as a radio host.
