Migrant Receives Suspended Sentence for Manslaughter in Shchelkovo

In Shchelkovo, Moscow region, a migrant was given a one-year suspended sentence for the manslaughter of a deaf and mute man. The victim’s daughter alleges a cover-up and expresses outrage at the perceived leniency of the sentence.

The incident occurred on July 20 when two men, identified as Toshov and Boymurodov, natives of Uzbekistan, attacked the disabled man, resulting in his death. The men then allegedly dragged the body into a nearby forest in an attempt to conceal it.

According to the victim’s daughter, her father was walking home when he encountered the two men. She claims that her father approached them, possibly to make a remark, when Toshov began to beat him. The victim fell and sustained severe injuries, including broken ribs, traumatic brain injury, and a fractured skull. Medical examination confirmed a direct causal link between the injuries and the man’s death.

During the court proceedings, the defense argued for the case to be reclassified from intentional infliction of harm to causing death by negligence, claiming a lack of intent to kill. They further stated that the accused attempted to revive the victim by buying him water and moving him off the road to prevent him from being hit by a car.

The victim’s daughter suspects the involvement of a diaspora in influencing the court’s decision, alleging a change in the article and a warning from the prosecutor about a potential suspended sentence. She highlights the court’s failure to consider that her father had a minor child, while Toshov’s claims of having two children and a comatose mother were unsubstantiated.

Ultimately, Toshov received a one-year suspended sentence, and Boymurodov was acquitted. The court also reduced the moral compensation awarded to the victim’s daughter from 10 million to 700 thousand rubles.
