A 37-year-old man has been detained in Chelyabinsk, Russia, after allegedly attacking his ex-wife and her partner with a machete. The incident occurred early Friday morning on Rumyantseva Street, leaving both victims with severe injuries.
The Investigative Committee reports that the attack took place around 5:00 AM near the victims’ home. The suspect, armed with a machete, ambushed the couple as they were returning home. Witnesses intervened, alerting authorities and emergency services.
Both victims, a 34-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, were rushed to intensive care due to the severity of their injuries.
Law enforcement swiftly apprehended the suspect, who is the ex-husband of the female victim. Preliminary investigations suggest that jealousy may have been the motive for the violent assault.
A criminal case has been initiated under the charge of “Attempted murder of two people.” Authorities are in the process of determining the appropriate pre-trial detention measures for the suspect.
The authorities recovered the machete used in the attack. Video footage indicates the couple arrived home by car with a female companion and were unloading belongings when the suspect approached them.
