The verdict in the trial of Marina Kokhal, accused of murdering and desecrating the body of her husband, rapper Andy Cartwright (Alexander Yushko), is expected on November 21st. The Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg heard closing arguments, with the defense requesting Kokhal’s acquittal.
The defense team, lawyers Sergey Lukyanov and Irina Skurtu, argued that the investigation failed to provide conclusive evidence of Kokhal’s guilt. They highlighted the absence of proof that she purchased insulin, the alleged murder weapon, and the lack of a clear motive.
Furthermore, the defense emphasized that none of the four expert examinations definitively determined the cause of Yushko’s death. One examination even suggested insulin could not have been the cause.
Kokhal, in her final statement, acknowledged her “idiotic” attempt to conceal her husband’s death, driven by a desire to hide his alleged alcohol and drug use. She expressed shame and pain for her actions, apologizing to those affected.
The prosecution maintains that Kokhal administered a fatal insulin injection to Yushko and seeks a 13-year prison sentence for murder.
