An International Couple Chooses to Live in Yaroslavl

Diana, originally from Moscow, and Malik, from Mali, have made Yaroslavl their home after celebrating their wedding in the city during the summer. The couple’s decision highlights a heartwarming tale of love transcending borders and cultures.

Diana initially moved to Yaroslavl in 2009 due to her previous marriage. Following the separation, she chose to remain in the city, drawn by her fulfilling job and close friendships. It was in Yaroslavl that she met Malik, a 45-year-old professional football player-turned-cook.

Malik arrived in Russia in 2011 with aspirations of playing for a local club. However, changes in regulations regarding foreign players prevented him from joining a team. Undeterred, Malik chose to stay in Russia, relocating to Moscow and finding work as a cook in a well-known restaurant, a job he enjoys.

The couple’s meeting occurred through social media, where Malik discovered Diana in a list of suggested friends. He reached out to her, and after connecting online, they met in person and quickly formed a strong bond. Malik was drawn to Diana’s kindness and understanding nature, leading him to propose marriage.

Their wedding was a fusion of cultures, blending Russian traditions with the presence of Malik’s friends from Africa. The celebration included Russian and African dances, live music, and traditional Russian cuisine. The festivities spanned two days, with the first day held in a cafe and the second spent with friends at a local lake.

Diana embraces the international aspect of their relationship and feels no cultural divide between them. She pointed out that her family already has a diverse background, with relatives of Moroccan, French, and Kazakhstani descent.

Malik’s family in Mali also supports his marriage to Diana, emphasizing that his happiness is their priority. The couple plans to remain in Russia and are looking forward to a trip to Mali, where Diana can meet Malik’s family and experience his homeland firsthand.
