Law enforcement officers disarmed a 50-year-old resident of the Priozersky district in the Leningrad region after discovering a cache of ammunition on his property. The find included a pre-revolutionary rifle, TNT blocks, and other munitions.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported that the discovery was made on a plot of land in the village of Romashka. Authorities seized 241 TNT blocks, one smoke bomb, a corroded 1913 Mosin rifle, signal flares, and approximately 18 rounds of ammunition from a barn on the property.
According to the department, the wooden box contained TNT blocks weighing over 18 kg. The remaining ammunition is currently undergoing further investigation. A decision is pending regarding the initiation of a criminal case.
The owner of the plot, who works as a driver in an institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense, provided an explanation for the contents of the barn. He claimed to have been storing the ammunition for more than 25 years. He stated that he found the items in the 1990s in a forest near an abandoned military unit.
Preliminary information indicates that the ammunition dates back to the Great Patriotic War.
