A fire in a wooden apartment building in Novosibirsk on 2nd Rimsky-Korsakov Lane resulted in one death, three hospitalizations, and the evacuation of 21 residents. The blaze, which started on the second floor, was reported late on the night of October 17th and continued into the early hours of October 18th.
The fire quickly spread throughout the wooden structure, which included a mansard floor. Firefighters arriving at the scene found the fire rapidly expanding.
The fire was localized to an area of 600 square meters, but a collapse of the attic floor, covering 150 square meters, complicated efforts.
Emergency services responded with 46 personnel and 13 pieces of equipment. They worked to extinguish the fire, which was classified as an increased fire rank.
Of the 21 residents evacuated, 17 left independently, and firefighters rescued four. Sadly, preliminary reports indicate one fatality related to the fire.
