Stefan Andonovski Discusses Digitalization of Energy Systems at International Forum

Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, highlighted the importance of digitalization in achieving a sustainable energy future during his address at the 14th International Energy Forum for Sustainable Development in Skopje. He emphasized that digitalization is key to efficiency, transparency, and resilience, connecting data, institutions, and citizens for sustainable policies and green energy.

Andonovski pointed to Macedonia’s progress in digital transformation through key systems such as the National Interoperability Platform, which connects 74 institutions and enables over 2 million secure transactions monthly, marking a 160% increase compared to the previous year. He also noted the National e-Services Portal (uslugi.gov.mk), which allows citizens to access public services online, and the Electronic Document Management System (eDMS), which has replaced paper-based operations in over 80 institutions.

According to Andonovski, these systems create efficient governance, data integrity, and transparency. He stated that his ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, has already digitized over 20 public services for citizens and businesses, and has introduced integrated document and financial planning systems.

Andonovski also presented new digital initiatives in energy, including the National Center for Artificial Intelligence – “Vezilka,” which develops AI models for predictive maintenance of energy infrastructure and demand forecasting. Additionally, he mentioned the European Digital Innovation Hub – INNOFEIT, which connects academia and the private sector to provide access to laboratories and training in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and automation. These initiatives are part of the SMART/MK 2030 strategy, which envisions a digital, green, and human-centered transformation aligned with the European Digital Decade.

He advocated for regional coordination and a common approach to the digital transformation of energy systems, stressing that regional cooperation is essential for success. He concluded by calling for a shift “from goals to action” to build sustainable digital ecosystems for a more efficient, transparent, and fair energy transition.
