Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska is publicly urging Islam Abazi of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption to take action on evidence related to ongoing cases of illegal construction. Arsovska made the appeal via a social media post, emphasizing the need for the prosecutor to address the alleged crimes.
Arsovska stated that failure to act on the evidence would set a dangerous precedent. She suggested a scenario where illegal construction would be incentivized if the prosecutor’s office does not take action.
In her statement, Arsovska also claimed that a government minister is attempting to interfere with her efforts to expose the alleged illegal activities. She accused the minister of using manipulation and appealing to diplomatic missions to silence her until after the elections. Arsovska specifically called out the prosecutor’s office for allegedly not daring to speak out against Visar Ganiu.
Arsovska referenced a statement, “One of the ministers, every day cries and sends messages to diplomatic missions to react and stop me from talking about the crime until the elections,” attributing it to MAKFAX.
