Skopje Declaration Signed at the Conclusion of the 14th World Sustainable Energy Forum

The 14th World Sustainable Energy Forum (IFESD-14) concluded with the signing of the “Skopje Declaration,” marking the end of a three-day event that positioned Skopje as a central hub for global energy discussions. The forum facilitated the exchange of ideas and visions concerning the future of energy.

Over 500 participants from more than 70 countries convened at the forum, including over 150 speakers. Through 35 thematic sessions and panels, they presented various ideas, solutions, and practical steps to advance the global energy transition. Signatories of the declaration committed to regional connectivity, smart investments, digital transformation, and an inclusive energy transition ensuring no one is left behind.

Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozinovska, stated that the forum signifies a pivotal moment for the region. She expressed pride that the “Skopje Declaration” demonstrates the region’s proactive role in the global transition, emphasizing Macedonia’s potential as a platform for transformative ideas. Bozinovska asserted that the forum initiated the energy future and represented a turning point for cooperation, solidarity, and energy vision in the region.

Armen Grigoryan, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), affirmed that the path to sustainable, secure, and affordable energy is clear but requires collective effort and vision. He emphasized the importance of political will, global solidarity, and commitment in achieving measurable results for citizens through policies and solutions that reduce emissions, promote inclusiveness, and improve air quality.

Dario Liguti, Director of the Energy Division of UNECE, emphasized that the “Skopje Declaration” is a crucial reference point in global energy initiatives. He stated that the declaration underscores a shared commitment to accelerating a just and inclusive energy transition that fosters progress for people, the planet, and prosperity.

The “Skopje Declaration” outlines commitments to integrated and inclusive energy policies, modernization of electricity grids and digitalization, investments in renewable sources and a fair transition, and the promotion of green finance and gender equality in energy. The document concludes by stating that collective efforts can transform the global energy system, ensuring climate protection, sustainable solutions, and access to energy and prosperity for all.

The 14th International Energy Forum for Sustainable Development (IFESD-14) was a collaborative effort organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of the Republic of North Macedonia, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the five regional economic commissions of the UN – ECA, UNECE, ECLAC, ESCAP and ESCWA.
