The 14th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development (IFESD-14) commenced in Skopje, North Macedonia, uniting over 500 delegates globally to address sustainable energy solutions. The forum, themed “From Goals to Action: Powering the Future with Sustainable Energy,” aims to foster international collaboration and practical solutions for a just energy transition.
Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozinovska, emphasized the importance of energy resilience in the face of global uncertainties and geopolitical shocks. She highlighted North Macedonia’s role as a central hub for global energy dialogue over the next three days, focusing on technology, markets, and the human aspect of the energy transition.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski underscored that energy stability is not just an economic issue, but a security one. He stated that energy independence is a prerequisite for economic freedom and emphasized his government’s support for reforms implemented by the Ministry of Energy.
The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program, Armen Grigoryan, stressed the necessity of sustainable energy solutions and highlighted UNDP’s active role in advancing this agenda through various projects. Tatiana Molchan, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasized the importance of multilateralism in energy and involving all stakeholders in building resilient energy systems.
The forum will address various aspects of the energy transition, including e-mobility, just transition, clean energy transformation, innovative technologies, financing mechanisms, and partnerships for new investments. Representatives from over 70 countries will participate in the three-day event, sharing national and regional strategies and presenting practical solutions for building resilient energy systems globally.
Since 2010, the World Forum has become a leading global platform for promoting sustainable energy. This year’s event is organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the five regional commissions of the United Nations.
