An indictment has been filed against a suspect from Negotino and the legal entity he owns for serious crimes against general safety, following a fatal accident at a Vardar River separation site in July 2021. The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office of Kavadarci is pursuing charges under Article 292 paragraph 2 in connection with Article 288 paragraph 2 of the penal code, as well as holding the legal entity accountable under Article 288 paragraph 5 in connection with paragraph 2.
The investigation revealed that the accused manager and the legal entity violated labor laws and safety regulations during separation work on the Vardar River. This negligence allegedly resulted in the death of one worker and injuries to another.
The manager is accused of hiring the deceased, Petar Micev, without a contract or ensuring he met the necessary qualifications or providing safe working conditions. Micev was allegedly allowed to operate a truck at the site without verification of a suitable driver’s license.
On July 21, 2021, the truck Micev was driving overturned into the Vardar River while transporting sand along an improvised path. A co-driver managed to escape and swim to shore with injuries, but Micev was trapped and died.
Additionally, an employee of AD “Vodostopanstvo na RSM” Branch Tikvesh-Kavadarci is accused of falsifying official documents related to the separation site. The employee allegedly certified consignment notes with untrue content, leading to a charge of Falsification of an official document under Article 361 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
