Groningen is set to host the Wintergoud festival from November 28th to January 4th, transforming the Grote Markt into a winter wonderland. This year’s event promises to be larger, brighter, and longer than the previous year.
The festival will feature a variety of attractions, including an ice rink, festive chalets, artisan stalls, a Ferris wheel, and a slide.
The festivities will extend beyond the Grote Markt, with WinterWelVaart taking place on the Hoge and Lage der A canals from December 19th to 21st. A new Wintergoud Market will connect the city’s winter hotspots.
Visitors can enjoy a circular route filled with music, lights, and seasonal treats, strolling from the ships of WinterWelVaart through the Zwanestraat, across the Vismarkt, and back to the Grote Markt. New themed squares, including one near the A-Kerk celebrating Groninger flavors, will offer cozy corners to eat, drink, and linger.
Local entrepreneurs are welcome to participate in the celebration by renting stalls or chalets. Cafés can apply for a shared tap license to serve festive drinks. More information is available at www.wintergoud.nl.
