Woman hits and kills wolf in Vejers Strand

A woman driving on Vejers Havvej in Vejers Strand, Varde Municipality, struck and killed a wolf on Thursday evening. The South and Southern Jutland Police confirmed the incident, stating that the woman immediately reported the collision.

Following the report, the police contacted the Danish Nature Agency (Naturstyrelsen), which dispatched a wolf guard to retrieve the deceased animal from the roadside. The agency stated that the wolf has been collected for species identification.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 PM. According to reports, the woman remained inside her vehicle after the collision due to the presence of other wolves in the vicinity.

According to Kent Olsen, head of Wolf Monitoring in Denmark, the wolf was likely a cub from a pack of six born in May. The Danish Nature Agency suspects the cub originated from the Oksbøl territory in Southwestern Jutland.

The agency is sending the wolf for examination at the University of Copenhagen to confirm its identity and origin through DNA analysis. They believe it is “most likely a wolf pup from the Oksbøl territory” and are awaiting the results of the DNA sample.
