A wolf pup was fatally struck by a car in Oksbøl, north of Esbjerg, on Friday morning. The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 AM, according to reports.
The carcass is currently in the possession of the Nature Agency in Blåvandshuk.
Kent Olsen, head of Wolf Monitoring in Denmark at the Natural History Museum in Aarhus, has examined pictures of the dead animal. He believes it to be a male wolf pup from the litter of seven born in the Oksbøl area in May.
Police have been notified of the incident and consider it unintentional, therefore no further action will be taken.
Earlier in October, another wolf pup, identified as female, believed to be from the same litter, was also run over on Vejers Havvej, a few kilometers west of Oksbøl.
Olsen explained that wolf pups begin to explore their territory independently or in small groups during late summer and autumn. Being young and inexperienced, they are not yet aware of road dangers.
The dead wolf will be frozen and sent to Copenhagen for autopsy, along with the pup killed earlier in October.
Researchers estimate that there are approximately 42 wolves in Denmark. Olsen notes that traffic-related wolf fatalities are relatively low in Denmark compared to countries like Germany.
