Vandalism and Theft of Election Posters Reported Across the Country

The Danish National Police have received 67 reports of vandalism or theft of election posters as of Wednesday, following the placement of posters on October 25 for the upcoming municipal and regional elections.

The majority of the reports, 54 in total, involve vandalism. There is also one report of gross vandalism and one report of vandalism under aggravating circumstances. Additionally, 11 reports concern the theft of election posters.

East Jutland has the highest number of incidents, with 12 reports of vandalism or theft. Central and West Jutland and Copenhagen’s Western Suburbs follow, each with 11 reports. Bornholm has not reported any incidents.

On Tuesday, a man in his 40s was arrested and charged with vandalism for tearing down 300 election posters in Albertslund. The posters were recovered from his home and returned to Albertslund City Hall.

Earlier, the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police investigated the removal of election posters from an intersection in Korsør, leading to charges against a local man.

In mid-October, the National Police announced increased efforts to combat harassment and threats related to the municipal elections on November 18. This includes a nationwide registration of criminal behavior targeting individuals involved in public debate and the presence of the Police’s Online Patrol (POP) in online forums.
