Two Men Confess to Large-Scale Coffee Theft Across Denmark

Two Romanian citizens, both 49 years old, confessed in court on Friday to stealing large quantities of coffee from stores throughout Denmark. The men, described by police as traveling criminals, were sentenced to imprisonment and expulsion from the country.

The indictment against them included a total of 17 shoplifting incidents, primarily involving the theft of large amounts of coffee. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated to be just under 200,000 kroner.

The thefts occurred in various locations, including stores in Kolding, Odense, Hvidovre, and other towns in eastern Denmark. The preferred brand of coffee was Lavazza, with the amount stolen ranging from 20 to 60 bags in some instances.

The arrest took place on Thursday in Taastrup, and the court hearing was held on Friday. The judge immediately sentenced each man to one year and two months in prison, along with a 12-year entry ban from Denmark.

The Foreign National Control Section East (Uka East), a special department focused on combating crimes committed by travelers, investigated the case. This unit consists of investigators, analysts, and other specialists. Uka East has previously uncovered cases of targeted and persistent crime among traveling persons, including the theft of side mirrors, debit card fraud, and the theft of expensive tools.
