Danish pop icon Thomas Helmig is set to perform at both the Tinderbox and Northside festivals this summer, according to announcements made by the festivals on Friday.
Helmig, who has been a prominent figure in Danish music for four decades, will bring his extensive catalog of hits to audiences at both events. Tinderbox, held in Odense from June 25-27, describes Helmig as “Denmark’s uncrowned pop king,” whose music has been the soundtrack to many Danes’ lives.
Northside, taking place in Aarhus from June 4-6, also expressed excitement about Helmig’s inclusion in their lineup, referring to him as “Aarhus’ very own pop king.” The festival highlighted his warm voice, humor, and cross-generational appeal as reasons for his enduring popularity.
Helmig achieved mainstream success in Denmark in the mid-1980s and has since released numerous albums, including his most recent work, “Sortedam” (2024), which reflects on the loss of his son, Hugo Helmig, in 2022.
In addition to his appearances at Tinderbox and Northside, Helmig is also scheduled to perform at the Trekanten venue in Aalborg this summer.
