Frederiksberg’s Forum will be renovated and transformed into a multi-purpose hall, now to be known as Sportsforum. This decision was unanimously approved by the municipal council.
The renovation is slated to begin in 2027, with the ambitious goal of opening the new multi-purpose hall in 2029.
The project aims to divide the hall into two sections: a municipal part and a private part. The municipal area, comprising at least 5700 square meters, will house sports facilities and a martial arts center. The private section is intended for privately funded sports and cultural activities, such as padel, climbing, events, or conferences.
Mayor Michael Vindfeldt emphasized the significance of Forum as part of Frederiksberg’s cultural heritage. According to Vindfeldt, sustainability and community are top priorities, driving the transformation of the iconic building.
The municipal council has already allocated funds for the project in the budget agreement for 2026. PFA and Thylander Gruppen acquired Forum in 2019. While Frederiksberg Municipality is exploring a joint purchase of Forum with a private developer, the selection of a private partner is still pending.
Additionally, Frederiksberg Municipality is considering the construction of a private hotel facing Rosenørns Allé and a café with an entrance at Julius Thomsens Plads.
Forum’s history dates back to 1925 when construction began under the initiative of Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning. The building was inaugurated in 1926 with a car exhibition and currently hosts concerts, conferences, and exhibitions.
