Free public transportation for vulnerable citizens in Odense

Vulnerable citizens in Odense will be able to ride buses and the light rail free of charge within the city limits starting December 1st with a special pass. The initiative, a collaboration between Fynbus and Odense Municipality, aims to provide a dignified solution for a small group of citizens facing significant challenges.

The free pass will be available to citizens with significant social challenges, and employees and volunteers at selected social services will be able to apply for the pass on their behalf.

The idea for the free pass originated with ticket inspectors, who sought a way to avoid conflict-filled situations when issuing fines that vulnerable individuals could not afford to pay.

According to Claus Houden (V), Employment and Social Councilor, the scheme demonstrates Odense’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable residents.
