Denmark has inaugurated one of the largest insect factories in Northern Europe, Enorm Biofactory, signaling a significant step towards sustainable animal feed production. The facility, partly owned by the agricultural company DLG, commenced operations in December 2023.

Enorm Biofactory will focus on breeding black soldier flies to create protein meal and oil. These products serve as sustainable alternatives to traditional animal feed ingredients like soy and fishmeal.

The factory is designed with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. It aims to reduce the carbon footprint associated with animal feed production by utilizing resources more efficiently and minimizing waste.

The insect-based feed produced at Enorm Biofactory will primarily target the aquaculture and poultry industries. These sectors are facing increasing pressure to find sustainable and environmentally friendly feed sources.

The establishment of Enorm Biofactory reflects a growing trend in Europe and globally towards exploring insect farming as a viable solution to address the challenges of food security and environmental sustainability.
